CAC - 40What are the indices in France?The indices of Euronext Paris are representative of the French market as a whole, for individual economic sectors, and or specific segments of the equity market. These indices have become an essential part of investment portfolio management. In response to investor demand, and as a means of raising the profile of its leading securities, Euronext Paris has designed a cohesive range of indices based on the French market. Euronext Indices B.V. is responsible for compiling and publishing these indices. The range includes of three indices (the CAC 40, SBF 80 and SBF 120 indices) that are calculated and disseminated every 30 seconds, and four indices (the SBF 250, MID CAC, Second Marche and Nouveau Marche indices), calculated at the opening and the closing of the market. There are also a number of sector indices, which are derived from the SBF 250. What is CAC 40?This index is made up of 40 shares, selected from the one hundred biggest companies listed on Euronext Paris, measured in terms of market capitalization. As the CAC40 is the benchmark for Euronext Paris, changes in the index are closely correlated to changes in the market as a whole.
